I am using Backup Exec 2010 R3. I have a media set that was set to hold 8 weeks of retetention. I now need space cleared on the drive its on (its not full yet, but i need space). I have lowered the retention to 4 weeks. The previous 4 weeks is not marked as over writable, but i need to delete it to free up space. I beleive Backup Exec is using deduplication.
I have 500 GB share which increases in size very less.
I was looking to backupo this share via symntec B2d to USB disk attched on same server with Share.
What would be take less network bandwidth:-
USB attached to media server with and agent on server with share?
OR
USB attached to Server with share?

Well, I thought I had this problem solved but apparently there is something else going on. Previously we have been getting failures on our Exchange server. It would suceed sometimes but fail most of the time.
So I uncheck the snapshot technology and it seem to do better. However, it failed again last night with the same error.
Need some help on what is causing our snapshot issues on three different clients. Any help is much appreciated.

Is there any way from the Server View I can see which JObs are in a state od "Ready no idle Devices".
It is very annoying to not be able to se backups in this state as every thing looks happy from the "Servers" view. When actuall a bunch of jobs are being held up (or about to time out)
I'm trying to restore the Database, which is around 60 GB. The job gets failed with "Socket read Failed"
Error bpbrm(pid=5016) socket read failed, An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host. (10054).
I ahve a Master server running as a cluster on 7.5.0.6. I have opened case for a RMAN backup failure , while uploading the logs from the master server. How can i make bprd to start writing to the new log file.

Runnings BE 2010 R3 (fully patched) on a SBS 2011 server.
We run 2 backup jobs on an evening to an LTO3 drive
First full backup does everything on server apart from exchange and uses AOFO (this seems to run fine every night)
Second backup appends the tape with a full backup of Exchange and does NOT use AOFO
We have the Problem that in one Policy are many Databases. When the Backupwindow opened all Databases start a parent job. The jobs are limited by 8. We backup with rman and rman set the database in backupmode, while the most of them doesn't stream any data. If you can limit the parent jobs or the clients which can backup parallel, they start step by step and doesn't switch in backupmode.

i get this error: Error validating Hyper-V machine name. Server failed to list VM's (-1)
could not find any info on the support page related to Hyper-V 2012 R2... does someone know if it's supported or not with v.7.5.0.6?

According to me, there should be a concept like “Differential_Full_Backup” in every Backup Technology, which will make “RESET” all the data set of “Last Differential Backup” (cumulative incremental backup).
